From 2012-2013, I performed three pieces in several countries around the world. I began in Quito, Ecuador’s Casa Trans as an artist in residence, and performed two pieces under the name of “ImproviSex”. The image above is from Quito, after I had cut the hair of several members in the audience.
Part of these two pieces later evolved into the piece, “Playing with Myself” which explores female self-pleasure/masturbation (image below) while the other, “Boxes and Bindis” had to do with being an queer Japanese-American woman in India. Below you’ll find the Spanish version of the recording I used during “Playing with Myself”.
In the spring of 2016, I performed a piece called “Welcome Home–Whose Home?” which used intertextuality to explore the multiple accounts of “home” within the United States. It also asked how we can work across differences through meditation and activated love. Sources: MLK Jr. Thich Nhat Hanh, Thoreau, John Denver, Chrystos, Sam Cooke, Francis Poulenc & Misora Hibari.
